The short answer is yes. If you spend your time feeling negative, and thinking bad thoughts about yourself, yes. That is destroying any chance at happiness you may have had. Too often we go through life with these nagging thoughts in the forefront of our minds. They can take over our entire inner monologue. I used to have them, too.

Steps (6)

What I came to realize, through mindset coaching and therapy, is that a negative mind will never give me the kind of life I wanted. This is true for everyone.

Having the negative thoughts, the self-doubt, the feelings of not belonging, the self-destructive self-judgment, the comparison syndrome will never give you the life YOU want.

The only way to have a happy, productive, enjoyable life is to FOCUS ON THE GOOD in your life. Find one thing that's good. Build on that. Did you wake up today? Good! You now have a chance to build on the good.

Have a cup of coffee that tastes pretty decent. Good! Is there something to eat in your house? Good! Are you kids loud and rambunctious? Good! They are healthy!

If you look hard enough, there is some good to be found. You may have to look harder than most, but there is always some good in your world. If you can't find the good, ask a friend or loved one to help you out. Someone will point out the goodness for you and then you can focus on that.

Start to focus on the good things in life, and be grateful for your existence, the semi-decent things that happen and your life will change.

I created a mantra for myself that I repeat whenever the negativity starts to creep in. It's a personal reflection of where I want my life to go. It works for me and helps me get back on track to focusing on the good in my own life and working on my positive mindset.

My Mantra: My life is happy. I am productive. I am worthy.
